The table that fits into our breakfast nook was getting pretty torn up, so I knew I had to do something about it. The table is made of pine, and the top is about 3 ft by 5 feet.

We decided to decoupage it. I started by cleaning, sanding and priming the tabletop. Then I painted it with the same yellow paint we used on the walls.

We settled on the theme of "Works of Art." I went to second hand stores in the area and purchased a few art textbooks and coffee table books to cut up and used the photos from them. Smiley When possible, I put the little tags from the book by each picture, so we could all learn as we eat! I tried to avoid putting too many naked people on the kitchen table, but some times you just can't leave certain pictures out.

Here it is!

I did the decoupaging part with plain old decoupage medium from Wal-Mart, then covered the whole shebang with several coats of waterproof varnish, because we need to be able to really scrub it (we're gross people, especially when we eat!)

When we put the varnish on to protect the table, we left the table in the garage in between each coat so it could dry without the kids and cats touching it. But, next time I'm going to try something else, because there are a few bugs now encrusted in to the finish  Roll Eyes If you're special, I'll let you sit by one of them!

Mmm, tasty!

 Grin I really love it.

I think you did a fabulous job, bugs and all!!

I love decoupaged tables. They are my favorite new craft. I really like your arrangement, it looks so neat and tidy! And I bet it looks smashing with your walls, I just adore that canary yellow. It really makes the pictures pop.

Fantabulous!!
