Hey, I wonder if you all have any ideas for wrapping candy for storage? I'm making caramels and ... how the heck can I wrap them in wax paper so they look nice?

The winner'll get some homemade caramel outta the deal Wink

Have you seen the Kraft caramels?  They're cubes, nidividually wrapped in cellophane, like you would wrap a present (obviously they have some kind of adhesive, which you probably don't) Anyway, you could do the same thing with wax paper, if you cut the caramels so that they're square-ish, and cut the waxed paper in the right size.  Maybe you could use heat somehow to melt the wax together so that it would stick to itself??


Alternatively you could do the twist thing (like small tootsie rolls are wrapped) : roll the candy in a piece of waxed paper and twist the two open ends - if you twist the ends right (I think in opposite directions?) you can then open them just by pulling (the candy unwinds itself).  If you care more about cute than about ease of opening, you could tie ribbon around the twists (so that it looks like a christmas cracker)

Could I iron something onto the wax paper? I'm flashing on some project from kid-dom...

so my plan is (considering my yield is supposed to be about 100 squares) to line 'em all up after they're cut, spacing them about 2" apart, wrapping them around each other in sets of 4 with the wax paper between 'em and then wrapping them Kraft caramel style. I'll see... Smiley

this would be quite a bit of work BUT. if you could wrap them in the celephane you could then put a kind of wax on the out side. like the kind cheese comes inside of (at least the good stuff) itd be hard but i think it would look really cool. maybe a low temp melting parafin, i dotn know if you can but it colored or if you color it yourslef. I DUNNO just thinking out loud here.

Are you wrapping for long-time storage or to make them look cute?

For Christmas flare: I had a flash of a little wax paper cube dressed up like a reindeer with pipecleaner antlers and a red pompon nose... Like a twist on the candycane reindeer.

i know this is late but what about shrink wrap? it comes in all colors and the new stuff i've seen can be used with just a household blow dryer. you could put the wax pater inbetween the shrink wrap and the caramel.

well, I found a site that sells candy papers and candy boxes. Cop out, sure, but wow, my wrapping of several hundred caramels is going to be a lot nicer and look better than I could ever do on my own!! Thanks fr the ideas and suggestions!

Foil wrappers for candy is easy. Cheapo method but labour intensive: could twist your wax paper after you double it with same size square of tissue paper - cheap cheap and in festive colours - stock up now for next year with after xmas (boxing day in canada) specials
