I am glad. My parent's loved the one I made for them a few years back. Surprisingly to me it is one of my Dad's favorite gifts. Post yours so I can see it when you are done!

I love the finish on this, it really makes it look antique. But I am far too impatient for all those layers! It would be worth it though.
Alas, I am too attached to this game. I wouldn't dare think of ruining a perfectly playable scrabble board. But the monopoly idea...>Smiley

I bought 500 tiles on ebay (5 full packs of 100 tiles) for like $15, and I got 3 scrabble boards and 12 tile racks for .99 Smiley  So you definitly don't need to ruin a perfectly good board!!  I saw lots of auctions for just tiles and just boards.. just for the crafty beavers Smiley

I don't think I'm going to do the crackle glaze because the photos i'm using are new and color.. as opposed to Mary Bell's that are  black and white.. I think that lends better to the crackle and antique finish.

My boards showed up yesterday.. I'm just waiting on my tiles and then I'm going to get started on this!!  Smiley  can't wait!!

Oooh JazzTurtle! I can't wait to see yours. You are right that the crackle glaze probably wouldn't be as effective. The first one I did didn't have the glaze.

I just finished my mom's!!  I am going to do one more for another friend this one turned out so well!!  I have one more coat of finishing spray and then it's all done Smiley

It's for my mom's birthday.  I used her name and then made words that I think of when I think of my mom.  The photos I used are of my brother and me thru the years.

I didn't use the crackle glaze, gold paint or antiquing medium..  I thought it looked ok without them because I was using color photos rather than black and whites..

the back

I used tongue depressors to hold the game flat, painted them gold and then wrote a little birthday message, and signed them with the date.  After they were glued on, I did a couple of coats of clear varnish to make it shiny.

It was a little to heavy for the tile racks to hold up, so I glued tongue depressors onto the bottom, in triangles, as supports.

My mom is going to love it!!

Thanks for the insperation Smiley

I bet she will - maybe it is just me but I can feel the love that went into it. It makes me happy and me smile to see it.

What a great gift!  I pick up games at thrift stores and yard sales inexpensively just for the extra game pieces....now I know how to use the game boards, as well!

No he went to the University of Minneapolis..  but he's a teacher and an actor.. and used to live in Israel...  and has been to TONS of shows all over the place.. so I wouldn't be surprised if you'd seen him somewhere...
