Hello everyone ,
I'm obsessed with making hats now ..So I made another one this time for my sister(Anda) , we are infamous for getting lost every single time we take a road trip , so I made her an official road trip hat to wear an those occasions , I used some really great road sign flannel ...I also made a pictorial tute .. so I'm sorry for the excess of photos , I just find pics alot easier to understand than purely written directions...

 So here we go ...

first here are the pattern pieces you need , the top /circle, the crown , the brim and the brim insert
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1348/641910713_344af34bdf.jpg?v=0

you must cut 2tops , 2 brims and 2 crowns ,

Now you sew the sides of the each crown giving you a inner and outer crown piece .. you then pin the top to the crown like so

stitch and now you have a cap!

make your inner and outer caps insert them into one another and stitch ( this is when a serger comes in very handy

Now sit the cap aside and begin work on your brim ..

stitch the sides of the brim the same way as the crown .. and make 2 ( inner and outer) this is also where you add your brim insert for stability

now stitch the brims together around the outer edge.. and flip right side out , then Iron and pin in place like this

now its time to do your rows of top stitching around 10 rows will be needed.. to give the quilted effect and add structure

then simply attach brim to cap and WA la there you have it a super quick and simple fishermans hat

inner view of liner

thanks so much for looking and I hope the tute is easy enough to understand fell free to ask if you need anything explained better ( ill try my best )
Id really love to see any of you versions of this hat so please post if you make one !

Have a great day/night
Jayne

thank you ,
and yes I think you could deffinetly do it without a serger .. just do a zig zag stitch outside of your regular straight stitch for the " major" seams for strength .. and then on the exposed seam on the inside " where mine is serged" you may want to cover it with some sort of ribbin binding ( just for a more finished look )\

 good luck

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
I saw the first hat you made and I was hoping you would follow through w/ a tute. Having sensitive pregnancy skin, I've been wearing these types of hats every time I leave the house! I was afraid to take mine apart to make a template though since I've never done anything remotely like that before, I only have 2, and they each cost around $10. This will be my first attempt at a clothing type item, other than PJ pants for hubby that turned out horribly wrong.

I was wondering though if you could add some estimated measurements to your templates. Such as the diameter of the crown circle and the widths of the other pieces. Also what did you use for the brim insert? some type of interfacing? Thank you again!
