I took a good look at my basil today, only to find this:

What is that?  Is it growing more roots above ground?  Why would it do that?  Is it a fungus?  Do I need to be concerned?  It didn't do this last year.  Is this possibly the result of using seeds from last year's plant?  Is it because it's been ridiculously rainy here all season?  Someone!  I'm freakin' out here!

Ew that lookes weird.

Ok, I admit, I only posted so I could be notified when someone figures this out lol!

We used to have some basil plants and they started to shrivel. My mom was like "oh it's nothing" but when I took a closer look there were little green bugs on them!!!  Shocked I was totally grossed out because I had just eaten some salad with them..

But that doesn't really have anything to do with your problem lol Tongue

My guess would be air roots of some sort and maybe the rain/humidity does have something to do with it. Can't say for certain though because I only grew basil once a few years ago so I'm not that familiar with it.

Maybe try this forum? I'd really love to know what it turns out to be as well.

Apparently they're just roots.  I took the whole thing over to a friends house -- her mother knows just about everything about... well, everything.  She said they're just roots.  She doesn't know why it's doing that, but she said I can cut it off and grow another plant.  Yay!  My little Basil is okay!   Smiley
