Well, after studying twinkiechan's cupcake scarf very closely, I came up with my own version of the cupcake. I lovelovelove them & can't wait to finish them up & make myself a scarf for this winter! I haven't weaved in the ends or decorated them (I want to buy some pom poms Smiley ), but at least it's a start!

All comments & constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Smiley

My lovelies

Have old jeans, pillowcases, or t-shirts? I'll take them! I'm also always looking for the sleeves to women's long sleeved shirts!

Excellent! After seeing a knit version posted recently, I was going to try to figure out a crochet pattern, so now I know it can be done! I could probably figure it all out from your pics, except for the part where the pink top joins the brown bottom.

About how big would you say each cupcake is? And how long did each one take?

Thanks for sharing!

If you give me just a few minutes, I can whip up a tutorial for it. The cupcakes are a little bit bigger than a CD, and they took me literally 15-20 min to make one. I think I may be a slow crocheter, haha. Anyway, I will post a tutorial very soon!

Whoo-hoo! A tute would be awesome! My brain is in summer mode, so now I won't have to think so hard Wink

Thanks a bunch! And I think that 15-20 minutes each is fast! Of course, I may be slow too...  Grin

Okay... here is my tutorial. I am very visually oriented, so I apologize for the mass amount of pictures. This is my safety net, provided my written instructions are confusing. Smiley

I'm using leftover pink & brown yarn & a size I/9 (5.50mm) hook.

"Special" Stitch: shell= 6 treble crochets in stitch specified.

Ch 15.
Dc in 4th ch from hook & across. (13 dc) Ch 3 & turn.
Dc in same dc as ch 3 & across (14 dc). Ch 3 & turn.
Dc in each dc across (excluding the dc w/ the ch 3 as in previous row). (13 dc)

Here's where it gets a lil tricky for me to explain, so here come the multitude of pictures.

Now we are going to put a shell on the side of the 3 rows. Slip stitch here:
Quality is a lil crappy, I'm sorry.

The shell consists of 6 treble crochets. They go here:

Once you have completed the shell, slip stitch it to the first dc of your beginning row:

Skip 2 dc & put shell in 4th dc, as shown here:

Then, skip 3 dc & sl st here:

Skip 2 dc & put shell in next dc. (don't have a photo sorry, but you'll be able to get the idea from the next one)

Slip stitch around last dc of row:

Put another shell around the dc of the middle row, like you did on the first side (no photo).

Slip stitch in top of "dc of last row" (otherwise known as the ch 3 from the 3rd row...just slip stitch in top of ch 3):

Continue with 2 more shells as stated above. Fasten off.

Now, to attach the cupcake bottom.

Join brown w/ slip stitch in any corner of your "puff" (in the same place where you slip stitched down one of your side puffs).

Ch 3 & dc in same place as where you slip stitched to join.

Skip 1 treble crochet of the shell & sc across the next 4 treble crochets. (once again, I apologize for the crappy photo quality)

Skip last treble crochet & dc in space between shells where you slip stitched down your shell.

Skip 1 treble crochet & sc in next 4 treble crochets of 2nd shell.

Skip last treble crochet of 2nd shell & put 2 dc in corner.

Ch 2 & turn. Hdc across, but do NOT hdc in the top of the ch 3 from the previous row. (11 hdc, do not count ch 2).

Ch 2 & turn. Hdc across, do NOT hdc in top of ch 2 from previous row. (10 hdc, do not count ch 2).

Ch 2 & turn. Hdc across, do NOT hdc in top of ch 2 from previous row. (9 hdc, do not count ch 2).

Ch 2 & turn. Hdc across, do NOT hdc in top of ch 2 from previous row. (8 hdc, do not count ch 2). Fasten off.

There you go! There's my first ever tutorial! Sorry about all of the pictures. I guess I like to be very thorough. Smiley

Finished Product:

Ha! I get it completely! I was thinking that you started at the bottom of the cupcake and worked your way up...silly me! No wonder I couldn't figure it out by looking at it Wink

Thank you so much for the tutorial!

Cheesy Yea that's what I thought at first, too. But then I studied the picture harder & figured out that the bottom was crocheted onto the puff. Good luck with your own cupcake ventures! Smiley

Thank you for the tutorial!! I am planning on making up 3 of these for the sweets swap that I am involved in right now.   Now I won't have to figure out a pattern. Thank you very much.

You are very welcome!! They stitch up pretty fast. Good luck with your swap! I can't wait until I'm "eligible" to participate in a swap. This scarf will definitely be one of the goodies I send out too. Smiley
