This was one of my favorite things, even when it was kind of ugly.
I don't have any proper before pics, but here's an idea of what the table part looked like. I have a deep-rooted hatred of that faux wood laminate stuff. (In my house, anyway.) Ugly colour, the stuff was peeling off the edges. The frame was a brass colour that must've been painted on and a lot of had flaked off so it was really uneven.

After: It's so heavy and awkward that I haven't worked up the gumption to bring it inside yet, so it's not yet in its natural habitat.

Speckled finish on the table top

I spraypainted the frame, painted the table part, added the silver speckles on the top and finished it off with some high-gloss varnish.  It matches the table I posted here. It's going to look awesome with my red phone!!!

Thanks for looking! Comments welcome, of course.

Hahahaha. I dunno. I've always called it a telephone table, but nobody knew what I was talking about. Most people seem to understand gossip bench, though. I think I've heard it called a couple of other things too. Maybe it's a regional/dialect kind of thing.

Thanks! Cheesy

Hee hee. I'll bet there are almost as many names for these as there are tables. I'd love a Desi and Lucy house. But with more skulls.  Grin

I'm afraid St. Elvis is my own blasphemous concoction. lol

I finally got off my arse and dragged it into the house.

There's one of those newfangled caller i.d. boxes hidden inside so that I can avoid talking to riff-raff on my cool vintage phone.  Grin
