Don't tell me I'm not crafty...!

As part of my course (Graphic Design) we made Super8 films... as an end of year do we had an Oscars night so that we could all see the films for the first time in style!
I decided a new dress was a must (despite having not sewn properly for a couple of years) and in a fit of lunacy bought a fairly tricky pattern and began cutting at 8pm the night before the event!
Well!
I would recommend this pattern to anyone!  The bodice was so much easier than I had anticipated, in fact the trickiest bits were fixing the mistakes I made when I got tired (unpicking sucks at 1am)...oh and trying to make a strapless dress fit when you don't have bodyform to pin it on!  That involved a lot tightening of the sides and replacing the zip.  I admit, tiredness and the pressure to get it done meant that a few bits at the back don't line up exactly and the hem isn't perfect... but pretty darn pleased and ready to choose my next pattern!

Everyone loved it, especially because of the colour... oh and the silk dupion was on sale so the whole thing cost me very little!

Hope you like it (and the film won two oscars so it was success all round!), comments welcome

Should have said in the blurb as well... it's Mccalls 5382...
Oh and if anyone thinks the top doesn't look too secure, no fear, there is a tight bodice underneath that is all part of it so that pretty pleated bit just sits nicely on top (but if it moves you are not fantastically exposed!)
Thanks!

This is so pretty! I actually have some fabric in exactly that color! (only mine was a full sheet set from goodwill, not silk, haha!) However, I bought the fabric, brought it home, and then said "ok, what am I going to do with this butt load of blinding yellow fabric?

Well, now I know that it will, in fact, look good as a dress! HOORAY! Now, to find a pattern that will work well with thin fabric... hmmm...

That dress is so amazing! I wouldn't have touched it even with two weeks before the big night, much less the day before, because it looks SO complicated.

Well done! Congratulations!

Thanks everyone,
Its so nice to get such lovely feedback!

As for costs... the patter was 5 or so, and the silk dupion was on sale...I think that plus the lining, zip etc came to about 25... Might sound a lot if you're converting it but not masses at all for a cool dress from here!

LOVE the color, LOVE the fabric, & LOVE that it doesn't have the icky trim or straps like the pattern does. yours also looks a bit shorter, too. much better length. congrats on the oscars! :]
