I got lots of advice on what to do with paua shell on the discussions board.  Apparently the shell dust is highly toxic when inhaled so you wouldn't want to drill a hole in it.  This wire wrap process was really quick and easy.

Rube: You like falling, do ya?
Betty: Well, it's not the fallin', it's the jumpin'.
Rube: I'd feel a whole lot better about the jumpin' if it weren't for the fallin'.
Betty: Fallin's easy, you just fall. Jumping involves strength of will.
Rube: Unless you're on a plank

Thanks.  I used 20 gauge sterling silver wire on the first one.  The second one reminds me of an x's and o's game board.  I twisted 2 strands of 28 gauge gold wire together and then wrapped the shell.
