I just finished my first box in my jewelry class (with lots of help from the teacher!). Everything else I've made has been jewelry-centric, like rings, earrings, or pendants. It's made out of silver and has an agate cabochon (I think) bezel-set as the handle.

There was some difficulty getting it to hinge correctly due to the odd shape I wanted out of the box and lid, but we found a place for the hinge knuckles to sit. Then, the box wouldn't close totally, so we added the pin and hole at the top for it to catch.

Finally, I didn't really want to shine it up (plus it's more work  Roll Eyes), so I used a textured bit to give the surface a pattern. The texture actually reminds me of the matte swirly surface some auto parts have, if anyone's familiar.

I think this was the correct board for it, but let me know if it belongs somewhere else. If anyone has metal fabrication tips for me or wants to offer feedback, that'd be super!

THAT IS SOOO COOL!!!  Major kudos to you...  That's amazing!  I like how the cabochon looks like it's a different color from the different angle.  Is there any lining on the inside of it, or just the metal?

Is there any lining on the inside of it, or just the metal?

Right now it's plain and unfinished - I was orginally just going to scrub it with steel wool, but a classmate suggested using stick-on felt to line it. I'll probably still scrub it anyway first, and then see how that looks. I saw a bunch of colors for the stick-on felt, so that could look nice and soft contrasted to the metal.

Thank you so much for your compliments (miserylovesme, that's so nice!)! It took me so long to finish, I was getting wishy washy about it.
