This is such a great tute!  This was my first attempt at making a bag, not to mention one with a lining. To my amazement, the handles went together perfectly on the first try!

I used a Target bag and added a few inches to the length of the handles.  I think instead of folding the handles in half at the end of construction, I will just make the handles about half as wide next time to eliminate some bulk.  I also did not do the gusset when doing the bottom seam, though I might square off the bottom of the bag later, not sure.

I didn't take pics -- probably not pic-worthy since it was a rather hastily-sewn prototype.  I didn't press it or anything, just wanted to see how it all came together.  I might make more of these as Christmas gifts once I've tweaked the pattern a bit.

Anyway, thanks again for this great tute!  Truly a craftster classic!

I have just bought a bag like this (from a rummage sale so it was second-hand) but I will save your pattern to make one for myself. (My boughten one is made of light nylon so will not last a long time, but is worth the 10 cents I paid for it.)
My IMMEDIATE appreciation for your tute is that it described how to get it folded back into itself - which I have not been doing a very good job of.

Hi, Thank you for this older tutorial, shopping bag.  I have just discovered this great tutorial.  I have a question, does the pocket (to fold and store the bag) get sewn into the inside of the bag or the outside?

I've been meaning to come here and post a thank you, I made one of these a while ago, and it didn't take me too long.  I was a little confused when it came time to sew the handles and linings together, but the rest was a breeze!  I'll come back and post a pic when i have enough postings.
