Here's my entry!  My girls never eat hot lunch, and it's really hard to find a good, reusable lunch bag.  Most of them fall apart before the year is over, so I made up my own.  I love Full Metal Alchemist, so I made this lunch bag a chibi version of Al:

here's the back:

he found a kitty in one episode and hid it from everyone.  This is a pouch for milk money:

it fits inside the bag around a part of the drawstring.  I painted his blood seal on the inside with puffy paint:

Here's my daughter modeling it:

Perfect size for a picnic! She was really into this manga at the time--didn't want to stop reading for the picture Smiley

Aaaaaaaand, here's the pattern:
(if you want it in pdf form, PM me with your e-mail and I'll send it to you.) Smiley

Finished bag is approximately 10x 8

Materials:
2 skeins gray worsted weight yarn
small amount of white worsted weight yarn
small amount of black worsted weight yarn
small amount of orange worsted weight yarn
black safety eyes2 15 mm
cat safety eyes2 12 mm
red puffy paint
small amount of polyester stuffing
2 small beads for cat purse
fastener (Velcro or a snap) for front, if desired

finish off.
Add large safety eyes using picture for reference and embroider mouth. Put both flap pieces together and either whipstitch or single crochet both together, leaving top open.
Find the center point of flap and main body. Right sides together (the face will be against the back of the body), pin flap to body. Whipstitch through all 3 layers along the edge securely.  Weave in ends.

5.  Finish off.
6. sc or whipstitch both pieces together around all edges.
7.Find center point on top back of bag (where you sewed flap to bag) and sew strap securely to bag.  Go back and forth a few times because this part of the bag will take the most strain of the weight of what you put in it! Find the center bottom and sew other end of strap securely to bag.

12. Using a long, single strand of yarn, thread in and out of  row 10 and cinch to close. Add beads to ends to keep them from unraveling or pulling out of pouch.  Tie pouch to inside of bag around a section of the lunch bag tie.

Turn the bag inside out. Use puffy paint to make the seal inside Als armor.  Let it dry for 12 hours. Use the picture for reference.

Use Velcro, a snap, or other fastener to secure flap in front if desired.

Feedback welcome!  If you see any errors, let me know!

How adorable...
We homeschool, but it makes me want to send my kids to school so they can have a cute lunch bag and milk money pouch - I mean how often do you need a milk money pouch?
Maybe we need a few field trip day lunch bags....
with a change pouch for......those machines that smash up your penny and put a picture on them!

Too cute.  Love FMA, and love the idea that chibi Al comes with his own little kitten to hide from Ed.  That is truly amazing.  So impressed!

Is the kitty done in loop stitch?

Edit:  I just noticed the blood seal.  Wow.

Aww this is too cute! I love Al, I've only seen the first few episodes years ago, but I loved the one with the kitty. Your daughter is so lucky, I'd kill for a mom that crocheted me anime things, bought ramune, and actually knew what manga was. Side note: her dress is adorable too ^_^

the trend of school shootings and a few years ago a few kids broke into our church, when the caught them they had some explosives and plans to bomb the school.  sad but true!  our state has the youngest kids that have been involved in a school shooting so they are just trying to play it safe.

This is quite possibly the most awesome thing I have ever seen.  Ever.  I love FMA, it is my number one favorite anime ever (I need to read the manga, but I'm too ADD to read long manga anymore Tongue) and I adore Al!  His love of kittens is so precious!  *squee*  If you do ever feel like posting a pattern, I will just have to love you that much more!  XD  Now I shall set myself to scouring the internet for Alphonse patterns... <3

Hey I printed out your pattern and started making it. And the count on the 8 round seems wrong. I can't find anything I did wrong so I kept going and now the 9 round is missing a stitch. I don't know if it's my fault or the pattern was just written incorrectly, but any help would be awesome. And a reply soon would be good to. I'm trying to make this for my friend for Christmas.
Thanks so much! =D

All fixed, as far as I know--The stitch counts were off, but the directions are ok.  as long as you follow the pattern, it should come out just fine, even though I wrote in the wrong numbers.
