Fiber Friday 6/15

Bixby2, your's may very well be my favorite of the week just for the sheer inventiveness. Thebon, what are sheep 2 shoe kits and where can I get one? I googled but nothing came up except bloggers raving about how much they loved theirs.

Blue Moon produces kits that aren't available online. They're 8 ounces of fiber dyed in their colorways [I have one in Lucy and one in an unknown colorway.] Mostly you'll find them at festivals that Blue Moon is at. I believe there are a few shops that carry them [The Fold and aww, crud, there's one in the Bay Area whose name I can't remember come to mind]. Rumor has it that you can also get them by contacting Blue Moon directly but I can't vouch for that. They're a little spendy [I think I paid $30 for mine] but the fiber is soooo soft. They give you pointers on how to spin the fiber in a manner similar to their heavyweight yarn as well.

Thanks for all the kind words folks! I've missed spinning and poor Gert is lonely these days! I'm contemplating a new wheel this summer but don't have room for two wheels so I most likely will have to make due for awhile yet.

Bixby I love your yarn, partly because it is so unconventional, partly because you answered the question I had when I first began spinning. "I wonder if you can spin the stuff out of aspirin bottles?" LOL That is too cool!

oh, I looooove feralfeminine's cotton yarn!  I have 15 oz. of organic pima cotton in a natural greenish yellow, and should really focus on spinning it.  so soft!

I have been busy at the wheel (and even busier at the drum carder).  I am finally getting more comfortable with acid dyes, and have used them for all of the following yarns.  Warning, hefty post

My favorite spin this week is this one, "The Fawn," with gobs of different fibers in it- cotton, falkland 56, recycled denim, a touch of sari silk, mohair, etc.  It turned out super light and soft.


Here's "Garage Rock 1" (I spun two, one had more green and the other has more pink to it).


I had several leftover fiber batts swimming around yesterday, and nabbed them for this yarn.  Unnamed still...


"Cuddle Lust," more mixed soft fibers with blurbs of maroon sari silk.

It's another fabulous Fiber Friday! and I'm back from the dead to post in it. I already posted my "Cotton Candy" art yarn in a separate thread, but here are some other things I've finished recently.

This week I finished spinning and plying some Crown Mountain Farms sock Hop roving. This color is called "The Beat Goes On."





I had some leftover Ashland Bay alpaca/silk singles, so I plied it with the leftover Sock Hop singles to get this:

I say this often, but it bears repeating:  Fiber Fridays makes my day many many many days while i'm stuck in my windowless workspace.  Today is no exception!  Thank you spinners for posting all the color!!
