I'm in!  I have a buttload of cotton yarn to use up.  When do we start?

I'll ask Motley if she wants to start it in the CAL thread, since it's on her blog.

I'll get back with y'all.

Ooops...sorry guys.  Motleycruiser told me that it's a copywrighted pattern so she coudn't post the link on Craftster.  I'm going to edit my link to her blog in my post.  FYI.

I understand totally.  Maybe one of us could modify it slightly and then start a CAL???

I have a similar pattern (or maybe it's the same one) that I got on the Craftown site (another Craftster, not sure who, pointed me in the right direction). It's listed as a free crochet pattern. It has a copyright, but as long as we don't reprint it, we might be able to use that one, maybe.

I've been wanting to attempt it, but was too chicken. I never thought about using it as a hot pad...I could probably manage one for that!

If you find it, would you start a CAL?  If not, I'll try to find a nice variation and post it on my blog to use.

Something funny, I've only just noticed the pattern...neither motleycruiser nor myself has made the 'back' to the pattern for our hot pads!  It's meant to be double thick...but I think it's plenty thick enough to be used in a single thickness.  At least I've felt safe using it for putting my hot pans on my wooden dining table.

Funny that I didn't notice it before and I just stopped at the top part!

Found it!

How do you start a CAL? I don't have a sample of the square to put up as a photo. I haven't attempted it yet...So maybe it shouldn't be me who starts it...

That link explains the logistics of the pinwheel, but the size is off.  The finished hot pad is between 7-8 inches, depending on the brand of cotton dishcloth yarn you use.  In the quilt square, the size of the pinwheel itself is less than six inches.  I don't know if just adding more rounds would do it or not.  I do know that the beginning of the starting chain is different than the Leisure Arts version, so that might be something that someone could improve upon for a hot pad.

I just tried kind of modifying the original one and it came out to be more bowl shaped, as I didn't have enough single crochets on the perimiter, so it drew up the sides quite a bit.  Ha-ha!  Back to the drawing board, I guess!

If anyone comes up with a free dishcloth-sized pattern, let us know!!!
