I was watching that movie "Stranger than Fiction" and in the girl's apartment, she had a vintage looking afgan that was black granny squares with a floppy rose w/ green leaves sewn in the center of each square.  Since then, I've been looking for a pattern and trying to come up with something myself with no luck.  Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about and have any ideas on how to replicate this?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

OK.  Well, I didn't see the programme so this is just a guess.  Are any of these what you are looking for?

If not, then maybe there is something similar enough to get you started.   Wink

haha i love that movie, freaking hilarious! actually in the crochet today mag...let me quick check which issue...in the dec/jan issue they have pillows with granny square outside and flowers in the middle that were inspired from a vintage-esque afghan and you could actually just take those and turn them back into an afghan again.

I saw that movie -- and I think this one sort of looks like it  -- if you use black as the background, of course:

There's a whole section of rose patterns on crochetpatterncentral:

You can also try this site, it has tons of granny squares of all types:

I know this is an old thread but I  really want to make this and was wondering if anyone knows a new link for this as it is no longer working?

Aw, I had one my Grandma made, and I washed it and totally destroyed it. I need to learn to crochet so I can replace it!

I would try this square http://krochetkrystal.blogspot.com/2006/09/daisy-flower-crochet-charity-square.html and making the rose separately and attaching it.

Also, here's a picture of the afghan incase anyone else wants to try to find a better pattern for it http://goofybeast.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/stranger-than-fiction.jpg

So, this is an old thread.  But Im pretty sure I have a crochet booklet with the pattern in it.  Let me double check just to make sure I still have it.  If I still have the booklet Id be willing to do a tiny swap with you for it.

Want to learn to crochet or knit?  I have a ton of extra crochet hooks & circular knitting needles.  Will throw in some pattern books and yarn for anyone interested in a swap.
