do you mean my placemats?  they are hand sewn in running stitch, it's just the standard sashiko method... but you can do sashiko by machine, there's a great book about it (in english) that includes many of the traditional designs just called "Sashiko" which i recommend if you are interested.

Alison, I feel your pain. I was totally ahead this month & got a shirt jacket embroidered for my sister. Then I wrapped & gave it away with nary a picture anywhere.

I did however get a tea towel done in the interim which I will post tonight.

OK, I did it! My first embroidery!

I got the stitch-it Kiit for Christmas, but then decided to try to freehand a picture onto the teatowel!  We have these kitty-face mugs, and I wanted  to make a picture of one of them filled with coffee.  It's cool, it kinda worked!

My husband asked what I was doing (I was embroidering it in bed, hee, hee), and when I showed him he said, "finally!  I was wondering when you were going to start embroidering!"  Huh!?!?!   Maybe because I've been trying out so many other crafts lately?  Maybe because he's always dreamed of having a wife who embroidered???  I don't know!  I'd have thought he'd be more excited about the socks I'm knitting for him, he can at least WEAR those! LOL! Cheesy

Thanks so much  Smiley !  I think it worked because I was thinking of it as another form of drawing, and that helped.  I've taken so many drawing classes, it's amazing how knowing how to draw helps with almost any craft!

Here's my old school tattooed tea towel--I got the image off of a tattoo gallery on the web, printed it, traced it & embroidered my dagger stabbed heart out. The stem stitch is a nightmare--couldn't get it even. I love chain stitching however & the overall experience was like having a new coloring book & 64 pristine crayons! Very fun.

I am 2/3 of the way done on my scarf & by god I'm going to have it done & posted with weeks to spare!

Okay, now that Krysta has gotten her package, I can post pictures of the embroidery I did & sent to her for the 4 elements swap. Yeah, Embroidering Air was a hellava task;) It looks like candy canes...

The flame looks awesome! And the water drop... what kind of stitch is that? The flowere is adorable, and I have to agree that the wind does look like candy canes! But no one can blame you for that one;p Great job!
