I was looking through my old collection of odds and ends, and I came across my collection of old plastic spools. And lo, a project was born.

For this you need a few same-sized, same-colored spools, a hot glue gun, a good amount of beads, (the smaller the better; I used a 5/0 size.), and a ribbon of your choice.

Heat up the hot glue gun until it is a good temperature where the glue doesn't dry so quickly. Then apply the glu generously to one side of the spool

Then roll the spool in a bunch of beads and using your fingers, carefully spread the attached beads to cover the glue. Allow the glue to dry.
Repeat this until all sides of the spool is complete, and then manually fill in empty spots.
Repeat for desired number of spools.
Attach any ribbon of your choice: (Note: displayed is the bottle the beads came in. these bottles almost always have the right sized beads for this project.)

Then with the ribbon strong through the spools, roll it on a pillow or fluffy blanket to remove excess flimsy beads.
If too many beads fell off, then take this time to fill up the spaces again, and repeat the roll test to be sure the beads hold.

Then show off your fancy necklace!

(Note: I chose a longer ribbon so I could tie a bow in the back of my neck, which gives the necklace a softer touch.)

For your other spools, re-use them for your ribbons.~  Smiley

I like!! Simple and fast, and it looks awesome.  What a great recycling idea!

While you shouldn't be a pack rat, be sure to save one or two of things you think you could never use. Those come in handy the most, I've noticed.~

Very cute, it would be cute to do different color schemes, like all blue. It looks very cute on you, too!

yarkris: Aw~ Thank you.
Actually yeah, I think I may try out a solid single color next time, just to see how it goes. And blue sounds lovely. Maybe an icy blue  Smiley

RondaS: Thank you. Ah! So that's what they are called. Sead beeds. Believe me, calling them the 5/0 beads, leaves every one I know confused. But then again, most of them aren't really craftsters.~
