Hi you crafty sewers,
Just got a machine and I've been so thankful for the great resources on Craftster.  I made this little pouch from Dyabolica's wonderful tutorial here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=10165.0, but have questions (below pic) about getting the zipper to line up.

I do it a little differently, there are a few more steps, but the zipper always lines up -
Look at a zipper - it has an end that is always closed, and an end that opens and closes.
I close the zipper, sew up the side of the bag with the end of the zipper that opens and closes (it will be the side that the pull is on at the moment).
then OPEN THE ZIPPER (very important)
then sew up the other sides.

But I don't understand exactly what that means in terms of at what point you do this in the tutorial steps and how it makes the zipper line up.  Sorry to be dense, but I'm very new to sewing, so would love advice!  Thanks in advance!!

Very nice fabric indeed!

As to your question, do it AFTER you've topstitched the zip, but BEFORE the original post says open the zip.

It basically just helps to eliminate odd gapes that you sometimes get if you don't do it. If the zips closed then it makes sure that the zips definatly lined up. It's easier to understand if you've done it wrong before!

Thanks for your nice comments...I scored the fabric at the thrift store (my favorite), and I think I understand better about the zipper now.  I'll have to try it out to make sure!  Smiley
