I'm wondering, with all the knitalongs that are happening, maybe some crocheters would like to join the groupthink fun?  Suggestions could be posted here.  I'm thinking... poncho?  Or has that been done to death?

I would love to try a poncho. And with all the support, I'm sure I could make it through Smiley I wouldn't mind doing mittens or something wintery either Smiley  Really, I'm up for anything.

Great idea: I'd also enjoy making mittens or some fingerless gloves for winter - let me know....

ooooh, I'm loving mittens or fingerless gloves, or maybe wrist warmer things.  I wouldn't do mittens because I'm not sure they'd be warranted here in AZ, but I'd love some fingerless thingers.  I really didn't want a ponco anyway for myself, but it seemed like the kind of thing that would be broad enough to fit lots of variations.  Glove/mitten type things are a way better idea to me.  But... any patterns?

What is a crochetalong? I see that we would be making the same item would we be using the same size hook the same yarn do you have to follow the pattern exactaly because there's a poncho pattern I would like to try but I already know I would change the size of the hook and the starting chain size.

I'd say that all the differences would make it more interesting.  I don't think we have to be doing the exact same thing.  Maybe not even the same pattern, just the same thing.  Like: poncho, mittens, afghan.  You know, just to see all the variations.  Or maybe, if there's enough interest in a specific pattern, maybe someone would like to set up a crochet along for that pattern.

Yes Please.
I've never done a crochet along. I recently abandoned knitting for crochet as it is more productive for me as well as more gratifying. So far I have made many crochet hats and would love to increase my repetoire. Great idea BeppyCat. I would love to do arm warmers, fingerless gloves (kinda same I guess) a scarf (very cool of course) capelets, christmas gifties would be nice.

does anyone have a pattern they want to use for gloves (fingerless or otherwise), arm warmers or the like that you love? I'm going to look around to see if I can find any cools ones Smiley

there is another thread about having a crochetalong on the misc board ... maybe we can have a few different ones.

i would LOVE to do a project involving some kind of hand-warming device because i've been struggling with a mitten pattern from lion brand for so long (it's in crocheted accessories, under homespun, called 'family of mittens') ... and it WILL NOT come out properly. and i badly want to make mittens! perhaps i am having problems because i'm attempting to substitute yarns ... anyway maybe in a crochetalong we could figure it out? this might be a useful pattern to start with. although with talented people like us, we could probably just design our own, as part of the crochetalong.

just found this pattern, too, on one of the other boards.

I would like to do a crochetalong as well. It sounds like fun!
I would like to do a biggish project however.  Or just something that can't be done in a day or so.

great idea!

loving mittens.  agree that maybe shouldn't be something we can just whip out in an evening, but I think I might have sufficient enough difficulties with mittens to justify the crochetalong part.

This sounds like a great idea!  Hand warmers/ponchos seem like good projects too.

so ... how do we start?
maybe somebody just needs to take initiative?
which board does the crochet-along belong on?

Okay, I'll admit that I just wanted to see if there was interest, I didn't really have a plan after that, lol
I'd like to make some fingerless gloves, so if anyone knows of a good pattern, I'll start a new thread for a fingerless gloves crochetalong.

ok, i found this pattern.

it seemed to me the best pattern, after a relatively short search, since there are men's and women's sizes and there are finished pictures that look good, and it's versatile ... people can keep off the mitten part or include it.

unless people had arm warmers in mind rather than fingerless gloves. a little different. a little more trendy perhaps.

if this is something people like, i will start a crochetalong thread. so this means, please respond or else i will think nobody's interested in this pattern and will do it all alone ...  Cry

OOH OOH! I'm making those right now! Started them last night. Pretty easy, almost finished with the first one, I'm making a few alterations as well......ooooooh maybe I will join this, although I showed interest in the other crochetalong as well....maybe I'll do 2! Or we could combine both.....dunno.

Here is a pattern that I have written but I haven`t tried it out.You can try it.

Materials
Size H hook
Worested Weight Yarn

Chain 20 for a childs wrist and 30 for an adult.Join with a slip stitch to form ring.Single crochet in each stitch until desired length.Fasten off.

If this works you could add like some fringe or something to make it cool.

I've never done a crochetalong, but would like to try it with a poncho.  I've recently picked up a few patterns, but would consider others as well.
