me too....here's my clammie and lobster

I think i'm felting deficient....i tried hand felting these guys, then threw then each into 3 loads of HOT wash loads and they still aren't completely felted!  I'd love any hints!

what yarn are you using? that may be the problem. if its not 100% animal fiber, it may not felt all the way.

i love these clammies!

Thanks all!   Grin turtlie, your clam and lobster are very cute.  I know what you mean about the felting though.  I think I could have tried felting mine longer.   And I used 100% wool.  I don't remember what I used for the shell, but I KNOW I used the recommended yarn for the clam.

Thanks....I'm using Lamb's Pride worsted, which is 85% wool and 15% mohair...the LYS lady said it is a good felting yarn  Undecided she did suggest for lighter colors like white and yellow to use a less commercial and processed brand, but for darker colors she said it should felt fine

If all our life is but a dream, fantastic posing greed

very cute seafood!

Felting issues might be from not enough agitation or too little or too much soap. Lamb's pride takes a while to felt from my experience (40+ minutes).

How much soap is enough soap? less soap is better - like whatever feels like it would knot your hair is good.

If you're machine felting, you need to make sure that you have a pair or two of jeans in there to smack your pieces around.

With the yarns that I use, when I hand felt it takes about 20 minutes of constant agitatition - but blends with elderly sheep wool may take longer or not felt properly. The hairs on sheep get thicker and more coarse and do not open up when felting. I hit this with several batches of yarn - you can see the "whiskers" if you look closely at your yarn when buying (look for those coarse hairs poking out of the yarn) but this won't work with a mohair or other animal blend. Elderly sheep wool is what you don't want.
