Hi all - I have been approached (via pm on craftster) to submit an orginal craft to an author in China for a book to be published there on homemade crafts. I think this would be a fun opportunity and I don't plan on selling my product or anything like that (especially since I've posted a tutorial on craftster itself). I am hoping you could give me some of your thoughts on doing this. Are there any legal ramifications I'm not thinking about? Would you do this?

Thank you!

I don't know, but for some craft submissions, they require you not to have posted your pattern/tutorial anywhere. You might want to check out what the requirements are for that specific book.

Good point, however she is aware of the fact that I've posted this certain craft because she contacted me through craftster with specific mention to the post... so I don't think this is an issue.

Since you have no plans to sell it, I say go for it!  Plus you get to say that you made something that was published in a book Smiley

Several things to consider:

Do you retain the rights to the tutorial/pattern?
is this person legitimate, or ripping you off?
Will you actually be credited in the book?
Will you be getting paid a fee/royalty?

Ask for the company they're publishing through and research, research, research. The last thing we want is for scammers to contact people via craftster and get them to agree to something they have no intent to follow through on. There are a lot of legitimate people out there, and I doubt this person is someone trying to scam you, but you never know. Do your research and make an informed decision. Honestly, I would need more information before handing over the rights to something I made to a total stranger on the internet, regardless of whether or not I've posted the tutorial elsewhere.
