I just finished my first purse (and sewing project ever) and I am so happy with how it turned out!  I used the jordy tutorial and modified it a bit to add inside pockets and make it bigger.

That is a great first purse.  My first purse was great too....so I thought at the time.  Now looking back, not so great.  Yours is so much better.  Nice job.

Awesome job for your first sewing project!!  I love that feeling of "im the cleverest thing on the planet right now" when you complete a first of.  Hope to see lots more of your stuff.

JuliaAnn - Aww thanks, don't worry, mine is full of "design features" Smiley

mickncrispy - Yup, that's pretty much how I feel today!  I keep walking around showing people "Look what I made!"

How did you alter it to make it bigger? I'm planning on making one big enough for school myself. Did you just make the cut out squares bigger, or didya have any other adjustments??

Also where did you get that outer fabric!?!? I love it!

Thanks guys, it means so much to me that people here like it since you all understand how much work goes into making something Smiley

gloomyjewel - The dimensions I used were 4"x22" for the strap (instead of 4"x17"), 9"x11" (instead of 8"x10") with 1.75" (instead of 1.5") squares cut out for the outer fabric, interfacing, and lining.  I got both fabrics from Hobby Lobby.

If you were going to make one big enough for school I'd probably increase the main pieces to 10.5"x14" and make the squares you cut out 2"x2".  This will give you inside dimensions of 8.375" height, 10" width, and 3.75" depth (assuming .125" seam allowance).  Also you might want to increase the length and maybe width of the strap. Hopefully this wasn't way more information than you wanted, I was figuring measurements for a "take to work" bag and thought I'd share Smiley
