Thanks for the kind words, everyone!  I would highly recommend the pattern.  The stitches aren't difficult, but they are interesting at the same time.  Plus, this pattern seems to work well with a variety of yarns (I have seen peopel use lots of worsted options, including Cascade 220, Patons Classic Merino, and Malabrigo).

The collar didn't give me trouble.  I crocheted the edging looser than the pattern suggested, which may be why.
