Any takers on a Virgin Mary/ Virgin de Guadalupe swap.

I love collecting Mary/Guadalupe stuff, prayer cards, statue thingies, shrines, whatever, it would be cool to make crafts out of what we have, then swap b/c people are bound to have different Mary stuff.

i <3 the virgin! my mom thinks i'm crazy and that she's gaudy (haha, God-y...lol, couldn't help myself.) Anyway, yeah, if this can go after christmas, i'm down! yay!

ive got alot too..ive got some cool fabrics with her on it too...one thing i will tell you about, but will not be in the swap, i have a 3 1/2-4ft plaster/ceramic our lady..heh...its all white..we talked about painting it...keep us posted!!! and also as far as the grilled cheese thing goes...i think that same guy was in the newspaper here not too long ago...i cant believe someone would spend that much money for that..it amazes me..

I'm not sure what I think about such a swap...on the one hand, I enjoy Catholic religious art and have a shrine myself, but on the other hand, I find it offensive that people would swap what --for me-- is at the root of my faith/culture as if it were Pokemon trading cards.  I suppose I'd like to hear how the moderator plans to keep it from being an irreverent farce before I decide whether to participate.

For the record, I feel the same way about other faiths/cultures -- no matter how "cool" I think Hindu religious icons are, I won't collect them unless I understand the sacredness behind them, and no matter how pretty written Arabic, I won't start painting it on my walls until I know what I'm writing.

im also a catholic and if someone has something nice that i like, and i have something they like, that you arent able to purchase somewhere i dont see the problem..maybe the swap word is the problem...i guess if your that offended by this you dont have to join in...as i dont join in many of the threads i either dont agree with or whatever...but bring able to give something beautiful to someone and them doing the same back is a good thing...its not like hey ill trade you 2 mary statues,a pin and a pray card for your 1 necklace and 2 rosaries...but if you feel this needs to be brought attention to the higher powers of the website, please feel free, and ill give you a list of the ones i have that i dont like

I see this more as a gathering of people who appreciate the Virgin Mary/Virgen de Guadalupe who have come together to create beautiful things for other people regardless of faith.

This exchanges purpose was to create Mary art, not to critisize the Catholic faith, nor to preach about the faith. Its more like a celebration that she is a powerful woman.

I probably won't start this until January. Holiday season is Craaazy.
