Craftycdeb, I LOVE your garden!! MY question is, with your pond, do you have a mesqueeto problem?? My sister had a little pond, maybe 3X3, and she was infested with the darned stinging bugs!! I couldn't go over, they love to nibble one me, until it got cool outside. I love home-made ponds, but that's my main concern, the squeeto's! I did know one couple who had a pond a bit bigger then yours, they had a little bridge to go over it and everything, I didn't see many of the buggers, but I did see a snake once, and a couple frogs too. Just was curious! (Love the idea's of the lotus'!)

I have not had a bug problem at all - the fish eat anything that touches the water... and I also have some resident frogs - and spiders (sadly mostly black widows Angry ) So no bug issues at all.. the only bugs I see out there besides the widows are dragonflies - we have several different varieties that have included my pond in their travel plans!

No bugs.
You should go for it = just make it big enough to take care of itself - the bigger the better - it will actually be easier to maintain the larger you go.  I wish I could have gone double the size I have but I was restricted by space.

That's good to hear! Sorry about your black widow's, but best to leave them be! LOL. I can't currently where I am, I'm renting an apartment, but I love lotus flowers, and their history! If we can ever get around to owning our own ground, I may just make a pond!

You know if you have a balcony or a patio you can grow lotus in one of those portable ponds - just only get one  Wink

I can't believe my garden made it!

You have no idea how badly I want to play in the dirt!!  I am going to be planting seeds for perennials this week though - they need a good strong head start... and I need to order some woodchips = as in 2 truckloads probably... and start removing sod for the new garden location...

And it is in the 60's today which doesn't help the spring lust!!!

I am so very jelous of your back yard. I love it. It is also a great idea to plant radish and carrots in between the stepping stones that would look so pretty.
