Over a year ago now, I got this amazing quilt from gingerquilts in a swap: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=95757.0 A few months ago, I made this (and some other things) for someone who got flaked on in the tree swap!

It is inspired by, but not identical at all.  I drew the tree freehand from a 20 by 20 pixel (tiny!) celtic tree image I found, it was so little I ended up bs'ing a lot of it Smiley  The background I made using a waving lines piecing tutorial that I can't find for the life of me.  After I pieced the background, I fused the tree to it and zigzagged around, then I did the rough stitching on the seams on the quilt, and bound it off! I did the edges of the quilt a little wobbly to mimic the background, I'm not sure i I like it or not...but all in all I am super pleased with how this came out! I saved the cuttings of the wonderunder so I could make one for myself Smiley

Wow! Beautiful colours, beautiful tree! The roots are amazing. What did you cut them with?

And the wobbliness of the edges - I like it! I guess the piece wasn't ironed completely flat in this picture? Because I think it will look absolutely natural with wobbly edges then.

Wow! That's amazing. Your "bs'ing" looks very convincing. If anything, it's even more organic than a Celtic design. It works perfectly with the fabric choice. I'm very impressed.  Grin

Vildhavre: I drew the tree on the back of some fusible web, and cut it out with my regular ginghers!  And no the piece isn't ironed completely flat Smiley and I'm glad you like the edges!

minouette: thanks Smiley

i agree with the more-organic sentiments of minouette...but you can still sense the celtic roots in the...roots.

i want to make a tree-quilt myself someday, but i'm always worried about how they will turn out.
