So, my problem is that I don't really like fun fur, or at least projects made entirely out of fun fur, yet when a couple Joann's were going out of business I bought up several dozen skeins at around $1 each. (My second problem would be an inability to pass up a sale). Does anybody have any ideas for ways of combining this stuff so it doesn't look like, well, fun fur?

Fun fur is best used in toys. It can be used as the actual fur. Cheesy

i agree with wips. check our the lion brand site. you will have to sign up, but they have a lot of cute critters too. you could knit a teddy bear or something like that.

You could use it to add texture to a Rapunzel Scarf.

Ooh, thanks everyone, I've only ever made one critter, but I'm sure my nephews would enjoy more. And I love the scarf idea too. Also I might need to throw a few skeins in the package when I do swaps, haha!

I made Tribbles Smiley

Although they were a bit small....but I was freehanding it. The first time I did anything without a pattern....even a basic garter stitch scarf required a pattern for crying out loud!

But fuzzy balls are fun to play with. Wait...that sounds wrong Shocked

I totally understand your dislike.  My best friend wanted a scarf for Christmas made entirely of Fancy Fur (like Fun Fur with poofy colored balls added).  I did it and it's horrible to work with on it's own.  I called the scarf
"A Dead Muppet". Wink  After that I didn't know if I would ever work with the few bits of Fun Fur that, like you, I had picked up on sale.  I ended up making a really basic scarf using 1 strand of Fun Fur and 1 of Lion Boucle held together that turned out nice.  The fur was a nice accent without being too furry. Thanks Rerun, I need to do some projects like that I think! My friend knit me a scarf out of brown fun fur, she knows that's my fave color...but it really gave me the creeps (the feel/look of it) and I could never wear it. I felt bad because I know she spent some time on it, but....

did you see that post in completed projects of the faux fox wrap? That was cute.  It's on my list of projects to make with fun fur.  I also never work with fun fur without using another strand of yarn along with it.  It makes it so much easier to crochet because you can see the stitches better.

I would love to see a pic of the socks bruisinraincloud! They are made entirely of fun fur? Are they slippery on floors?

theres only one in this pic, but theres 2 socks, of course!

thanks for looking!!

they havent been slippery....Boo says that they are really warm, and he is going to use them as 'bed socks' during our cold Alabama winters.......LOL.....his feet are like ice sometimes Smiley

edited to add

I used a regular blue yarn for the extra thickness......

Umm, I add it to another yarn (usually a boucle type) it makes bags and socks festive (and it's easier to see your stitches)

Fabulous!  I was just wondering what to do with Fun Fur.  I've inherited, not 1, not 5, but 15 skeins of "Peacock" Fun Fur.  That's a whole heckuva lot of socks!  Hee hee.

Maybe I will create my own Muppet.  Wink

After you said that I got to thinking, we must have the same Fancy Fur because crocheted up it really would look like a dead muppet.  I think my only option is... make a dead muppet!  I'll post it when it's done, not that it's even started yet.  But I have 8 skeins of it!!  It was my mom that was unable to pass up the $1 sale, not me lol, maybe I'll make the dead muppet for her  Cheesy

So morbid... it's going to be just my luck that it becomes my 2 yr. old son's new favorite toy or something and he tells everyone that mama made him a dead muppet  Cheesy

I find that Fun Fur lends itself well to things like pillows and cushions too. That way you don't have to wear it but can enjoy the fluffy texture (ok, so I like eyelash yarn  Tongue ).

Technicolor bearskin rug?

Or do the dead muppets and join them together to make one of those weird stoles, complete with little beady eyes and sharp teeth(you know, where one weasel or mink or whatever (here, Elmo!) appears to be biting the rear end of the mink before it).

I LOVE the idea of a rug with fun fur! I just bought a really cool chair that has a cream background with rows of dots in red, green, turquoise, yellow, and blue. That would look so neat in my new place with a colorful crazy rug! When I get around to moving out!

I'm thinking for the rug, to use an oatmeal colored cotton and do red fun fur for a while, then green, then blue, etc! So it would have the nice cotton feel but the fun-ness and color of the fur!

maybe some kind of whacky furry monster? turn it into a bag? cushion?
hmm i don't know if you know anyone who plays a musical instrument..but furry instrument cases are nice to hug when it's cold lol!
i think fun fur is nice as a small accent..mainly on scarves.
on that note, my mother loves knitting me scarves from her massive fun fur stash =/
