Hopefully nobody finds this too offensive...

A buddy of mine stationed in Iraq just found out his tour of duty has been extended another 6 months so he's obviously a "wee bit" down right now.  When asked if he needed anything added to a general care package we were sending he requested a sheep.  Well.  I mean come on...I couldn't help myself  Roll Eyes

He's about 3" long, needle-felted merino over wire armature.  That's the 82nd Airborne emblem tattooed on his butt BTW, my buddy's unit.

Wow, that's really well done (how did you do the emblem?? It's so tiny!)  I really like this project, since it's the little things in life that help lift our spirits, and I think that you are giving your friend a wonderful gift.  It's so hard to watch the destruction caused by this Iraq disaster, and it's nice to see a little ray of love come through and to remember that we're all human beings who love silly fuzzy things after all.

When I saw the sheep face, the laughter started, by the time the butt came into view, fell off the chair in hysteria.

Then picked myself up an thought on the social/political ramifications, meaning and found another level that brings this work to an art piece.

It is all at once funny and sad, silly and powerful.

Thanks for putting the "mature content" label on it.

I had to laugh at this...in an immature adult way. Several of my ex-high school students are on their way to Iraq-this is giving me an impetus to make them some goodies. Though it probably wouldn't be appropriate for their teacher to send this Roll Eyes Tongue
I bet your friend loves it. Now what could you give a woman soldier?Huh

Much thanks all!!  It gave my bud a giggle (he's a giggler) and I'm glad you's guys got a chuckle out of it too.

Serta sheep... YES!  I knew this dude looked familiar but couldn't place him.

Raindrop, I just used the felting over wire tute on this board and made the sheep's characteristics up as I went, adding a little here or smooshing some there as needed.  Which is to say, it was 3 a.m. and I didn't really pay attention to what I was doing.  I just keep pokin' it till I like it or my fingers are too sore to go on  Grin   If you make one like it pleeeease post it!  I doubt there's a soldier out there that wouldn't get a sheep joke.

Very nice of you to make such a cute item. I'm sure it'll make him laugh everytime he sees it.
You are brilliant. It's' nicely done.

Sorry to hear he has to stay another six months, I wish him much health and a safe return.
