Skull Luggage and Accessories

I had my day all planned yesterday.  I was going to make my son a nice luggage bag to take on a camp he was going on today.  Then....as all well planned days go.....my day was turned completely upside down and only got the bag cut out.  So I was up until midnight making the bag and accessories.

This first picture shows the luggage empty.  The outer has heavy iron on interfacing and the lining, a medium weight interfacing.  The lining was a plain grey colour to complement the skulls on the outer fabric.  I was a bit skeptical about the fabric at first because it is flanelette (which is traditionally pyjama fabric) but the fabric worked beautifully with the iron on interfacing.  It doesn't make the fabric look wrinkled at all. 

This second picture shows the luggage when full.  It has a side pocket (like Zelda.Suicide's) and piping detail.  I made the piping myself as the fabric store didn't have grey colour.  That was a PITA!!!

The kids also need to take a mess kit (plate, bowl, cup, cultery etc.), so I made a lined drawstring bag to keep it all together:

Then they need something to keep the huge amount of toiletries that were required for the camp (toothbrush, toothpaste etc. but also sunscreen, aeroguard etc. etc.).  The list was huge so I had to make a huge bag to fit it all in:

Phew....all this.....and the camp is only overnight!!  Plus they needed a sleeping bag and pillow.  Well, it is the Great Aussie Bush Camp so they will get muddy, dirty and wet.  Yay.  I needed to take photos before he went.  Goodness knows what colour the bag will come back.

That is a great set!!  He's going to have the best luggage at camp for sure.  Can you share where you found the fabric?

That bag is awesome! I can't wait to make one and today at the thrift I found the best vintage bathrobe to make it from!stay tuned....
