Thanks all for your nice comments.   Smiley

That is a great set!!  He's going to have the best luggage at camp for sure.  Can you share where you found the fabric?

I'm in Australia and I got the fabric from Spotlight.  It's a flanelette and I normally wouldn't have chosen to sew luggage with it but it actually turned out to be quite OK.

wow cute bag Wink
Do you mind me asking how on earth you made your own piping? as it really complements the bag so well.

You are such a good Mom, losing sleep to make sure he has the right luggage.  I think that's awesome.

How much fabric to you think you used gor the luggage bag?  and lining?

Thanks runnermom100863.  I do hope he uses the bag more than once, because if he doesn't, I will..........to run away!!!  Wink

Firstly, I made my own bias binding (that's the painful part) which was 2 inches wide.  Then I folded the bias binding over cording.  With my zipper foot, and as close to the cording as possible, I sewed the cording within the binding.  If this doesn't make sense, I can do a little tutorial.

LOL!!  Cheesy  Gotta get the priorities right, hey?

It didn't take much fabric at all and as usual I bought WAY too much.  In theory, it would only take almost 1 metre (umm, in inches, that's about 39.5") of each of the outer fabric, lining and 1 layer of interfacing (I used 2 layers of interfacing).  That also includes the fabric for the pocket on the front.  With this amount, you would have to cut the pieces right up next to each other and the fabric would have to be cut at a perfect right angle to the selvedge.  It doesn't allow extra.  I allowed 1.5 metres of each (about 60 inches) however I bought 3 metres so I could make the other accessories.  That's assuming you have 44" wide fabric.
