Death came on silver booties

I picked up the Designer's Choice book 1 by Elsebeth Lavold to make "Liv". I actually bought the suggested yarn... it's the first time I've ever used the yarn called for in a pattern!

I have to save the cablework for home, but the rest of it will be worked on daily during my commute. It's my first real foray into cables. I also have her Viking Knits book, and although I can live without the actual patterns, her cables are awesome, so I'm starting easy with the plan to work up to the tough ones.

I'll probably be casting on sometime this week - any one interested in joining me?

Here's a link to where I got the book & yarn:

I actually have a small question for you....are you using the Silky Wool that's recommended? If so, is it really soft? I'm considering using it for a different project and wondered what it was really like.

Yep, I'm using the Silky Wool . But I got it in the mail the same day as a bunch of other yarn, so I didn't fondle it with as much attention as it deserved. It's definitely soft, and I expect more softness once washed. I will say that it's soft enough that even my BF said "no way cables are going to show up with this stuff" and wouldn't believe me till I showed him the pictures from the book.

I'll let you know once I've swatched up and had a chance to play with it a little bit.

I just swatched the Silky Wool - for the first time I had to go up a needle size to get gauge. I always have to go down at least 1 size, but I hit it exactly right on 7s even on row gauge.

The yarn is so soft, and drapes absolutely beautifully. I'll be casting on momentarily - I finally finished all the Christmas presents (yes, late) this morning. I'm so jazzed to be starting projects for ME again!  And working with really nice wool instead of novelty yarn makes me so happy. Smiley

I seem to be the only person anywhere on the web knitting this pattern. So this is a Knit-Alone, instead of a Knit-Along, but maybe someone else will jump in eventually!

Update...

I finished the back last night on the train - put the final stitches on the holder just as I approached my stop!

I had to start the front 3 times this morning (extra stitch showed up somewhere, then I got the cable chart backwards on a row *arg*). I think it's right now, but I'm going to have to make a more comprehensive chart so I can keep track of the "at the same time" stuff.

The more I work with the Silky Wool, the more I like it.

Update...

Front is done, shoulders are joined, neckband is done, and I made it through the cabling on the first sleeve.

Update...

Finished all the pieces, attached the neckline, inset the sleeves, and started seaming it!  With any luck, picture in a day or two Cheesy

Can't wait till it's blocked - right now it's a little snug and short, even though I made it the right size, and used a slightly larger needle, and my gauge crept up. But when I damped down the swatch, it did bloom a bit. So cross your fingers for me!

I did find out that I don't like actually knitting the yarn as much as I thought I did... it's tough to see what you're doing, and it's even worse during the seaming up. But it's so soft and flowing that I think it's worth it.
