I don't know if you have this saying as well, actually it is "Stripes make slim", but I would say it did work for my mock baroque night stand, which actually was quite plump. At first I had thought indeed of a baroque motif for it, but then said to myself: You are so predictable and boring! Now what would be quite opposite to fat Baroqueness (Is there such a word?) - and I came up with modern gift wrap with stripes (and glitter, I have to confess). I stripped the badly painted black colour completely and had to saw off the knobs  Angry, then it was sanded and painted white (acrylic paint) several times in thin layers with a paint roller where possible. I painted the stand completely, although large parts were supposed to get the paper on top, and I did this because the background was still dark wood and if the paper is too thin the dark shines through and you end up with dull colours. The gift wrap was quite thick actually, but I prefer to be on the safe side. (By the way, if you want to put thin paper onto a dark background, you first paint the backside of your motif white and then cut out) Back to the night stand: I then wallpapered it with the wrapping paper, which was a bit tricky when it came to the curves of the lid, and after drying it finally got some varnish and it was done. Now the little night stand is doing its job in my bedchamber and is a bit of a counterweight to all those angels and roses, where I really have no idea how they all managed to find their way into my bedroom Grin.

While we are still in my bedroom I can show you as well the other little decoupaged thing hanging on the wall. It just got some colourwashed (silver) motifs from a Dover Pictorial Series Book, a bit of sanding and patina and that was it.

I was referring to the white paint on the wooden frame  Smiley It looks flawless, which is impressive because the previous paint job looked a bit lumpy.

That's such an awesome night stand!  I totally want one!  And I definitely like what you did.  The light color really brings out the stand and makes it look new.

I'm always looking at the recon stuff, and just knowing that people can't run out to the store to buy one because there is only the one you made makes it so worthwhile.
Great job!

Very nice job. I love the colors you chose. So many people are afraid of color and it makes me happy to see people who aren't (I live in a box of crayons.)
