My friend Nick requested a hat with a rainbow motif and earflaps. It's my first fair isle that I'm not embarrased about, so I'm quite proud.

Be in awe of my camera skillz:

Yarn: mostly Lion Wool with Nashua Handknits Creative Focus Worsted (green) and Paton's Classic Merino Wool (blue). A pastiche of scraps, if you will.
Needles: 4mm circular/dpns
Notes: pretty basic construction, knit from the bottom up with 4-corner decreasing. Earflaps picked up and worked afterwards in garter stitch.
Overall: totally awesome.

What a terrific hat! I love the whole ROY G. BiV color sequence (aka red, orange, yellow, green, blue, then violet)

I love it! Your fair isle motifs remind me of a "ye olde style" video arcade game screen.

If all our life is but a dream, fantastic posing greed
Then we should feed our jewelry to the sea
For diamonds do appear to be
Just like broken glass to me.

it's cool, do you have the fair isle chart? it's really cool, like hearts or something.

Thanks all! I gave it to Nick yesterday, he wouldn't take it off. I think it went over well.

It's actually the Ric Rac chart from Nicky Epstein's Knitting Over The Edge with lines interspersed. They're really just creatively arranged triangles.

Wow, if that isn't the most amazing hat in the world it's pretty close Smiley

I like that a lot. Good job on the color work.
