Wow, this thread is totally making me miss the Philippines. Aah, pretty beaches, good food (although I was mad that the only meat I could get in my ma's town was pork *yuck*), and good shopping.  Cheesy I especially like how everyone EXPECTS you to try to bargain on the prices of everything at the market. *sigh* Asians are so fun.

And yeah, I would totally wanna be in on an Asian swap, even though I'm stuck stateside.

Hmm..Asian swap...Interesting.

It's hard getting crafty stuff here in Malaysia though. Our craft stores are mainly filled with just paints, brushes, and scrapbooking stuff. But then again, I've not bugged dad to drive me around the more discreet areas.

Could the swap be done only after the 17th of June though? My finals won't be over til then. Damn A-Levels!

there's not a lot of crafty stuff here either, compared to what can be found in the US (and im sure europe as well), but there are some amazing treasures to be found.

lately ive fallen in love with the chinese brushes.  and there are some awesome stamps to be found as well.  and the paper! OH! the paper!  yum.

ive been a lurker for a number of years here, but ive never been much of a poster until now.  methinks it's because i really miss the craftiness.

nirvanagrl, where you headed?  what province?

im not done with school until july 12 (semesters are on a totally different page here).  my parents are arriving for a visit (YAY!) july 10, and i head back to the states at the end of july.

Good shopping!!! Very cheap stuff, but good quality.

random suggestion for a possible Asian craft exchange-
-a piece of "native fabric" bargained from the street stalls in your country
-a matching piece of decorative embellishment (think weird lace or zig-zag or whatever)
-a little bit of handmade paper  or stationary (handmade OR purchased from the country you're in)
-and something else like beads, or a diy package of some sort.

could also make it fun by adding like 3 pictures of "things you'd see here" and a recipe from your country. For those stateside, they could go on the "ASian theme" and like try to find "all japanese stuff" OR something like that.

ideas? timeline? (I like the late in june or july timeline)

*And I, unforunately, did not get anywhere outside of the main tourist traps in Xi'an and Kunming, but I'd love to visit again and experience it "for real." *

okay kids-
I think this is a possible swap idea? And I appreciate the feedback and great suggestions.

I haven't ever done such a thing and I don't think I'm eligible to organize a swap until I participate in one-which I am trying to do now.

 Undecided
someone wanna organize this formally and open it up?
