I am so freakin' in love with making messenger bags that I am going to quit my job and become a hermit that has five hundred thousand messenger bags in her house...my green tablecloth bag was attracting too much attention so I wanted something a bit more subtle...so I found this green stripey remnant and prettied it up with some pink bias tape.

Here's the front...

and the back, complete with my painting supplies and my 'Beatles' death clues book...

Comments please!  Pretty?  Ugly?  Pretty ugly?  LOL! Smiley

I vote for pretty. I like the contrast of the pink with the darker stripe fabric. You may find this one draws attention too. Wink

Thanks ladies!  This is a pic of my tablecloth messenger bag.  It's a bit leprechauney -- meant more for special nights out instead of every day use!

Thanks for the nice comments!

Yeah, I see what you mean about eye-cathching. But VERY cool :-)
And maybe a bit too shiny for everyday :-)

Can we see a pic of this with you or some object to give us some idea of the size of the bag? Just curious. Thanks.

Your bag rocks, I love the green stripey fabric.

I hate to admit that I like it better that the tablecloth one. The tablecloth one looks like its from the future and I'm not ready for Logan's Run just yet.

Do you have a tutorial posted for these yet? I love the size.

BTW, you have your extra pockets on the back of the purse, do your things ever fall out from hitting your leg when you walk?

2/18/12 - I no longer have the directions for wrapped pens, I lost them several years ago. To obtain them for yourself, do like I did, contact DMC threads directly and ask for them.

Unfortunately, I don't have a digicam and didn't take a pic of the bag and myself.  However, I have a pic of the tablecloth bag and a friend of mine to give you an idea of the size as I made them both the same size.  The front is 10" high and 14" long, the side is 10 " and 6" wide.

I checked into the oilcloth you mentioned and found some cool retro designs at JoAnn's...just waiting until payday  Wink

As for the tutorial, yes, I made one.  I'm not the best at explaining things, but I hope it helps.  Smiley

The extra pockets on the back have velcro dots on the inside to stop little things from falling out, but I usually stick the "little" stuff in the zipper pocket I put on the inside of the bag.  With the velcro dots, I put two in each pocket, just for added closure.
