I want to figure out a way to make my own stocking holders that will go on my mantle... only problem is I don't know what to make them out of. It has to be something very heavy since it has to balance a stocking full of goodies but I always want something I can manipulate because I want to be able to create my own design and then decorate them.

Any ideas?

Hmm, maybe you could take large rocks, paint/embellish them, and add a hook.

Well, I need it to be something maliable because I want to make them into certain shapes... (But that's a good idea for a later project, Thanks!)

I was thinking maybe ceramics, in high school art class I made some pretty heavy pieces... but I don't have a kiln. Undecided I wonder if I can find someone who will let me use theirs.

Maybe I could put a weight or something in whatever I use...  Huh

Perhaps you could try making them out of Sculpey bakeclay.  Something like this with a hook attached.  Not sure about the weight but maybe you can work with this - http://www.sculpey.com/Projects/projects_Nickjr_JanuarySnowman.htm

You could make them from sculpey, and the attatch some sort of weight, either inside, or underneath, or hidden in some decorative element on the piece.
