After realizing my sons Jacket didn't fit him anymore I decided to make him one. I found a book at Barnes and Noble on simple kids clothes and decided to give it a whirl. The outside is Wool plaid that I got last year on clearance and still hadn't done anything with. I lined the inside with Fleece - beware it's warmth - and instead of buttons (which my machine cannot handle without jams left and right) I thought it would look much nicer with some appliqued accents and those cook strappy things. It took me a good two weeks to really complete this. I had to keep stepping away to make sure I didn't hurry through and do a crappy job. I am very pleased with the results. I think a twill or something not so oddly plaid would have looked amazing, but this is still pretty good for a first coat.

This is pretty AMAZING for a first coat! Love the addition of the appliqued accents. I'm sure kiddo will be proud to wear this all winter.

PS - this ROCKS.

Fabulous!  I especially love the coat-and-shorts look!  Smiley  I have yet to try making a coat with a hood - yours came out great!
