ok, so i am having issues... i have everything to make my windchime, but i dont have something to use for the top part of it. the part that everything hangs from... i have looked through everything and im jsut getting frusturated because i cant really start putting it together till i have that... gah! and it snowed again here making everything damp and yucky outside...

any advice without giving anyones secrets away?
i tried taking a lampshade apart but it was either too big or too small... i had a coathanger but it didnt look appealing, i had another round metal thing but it was too big...

im going to keep scouring my house for something...

im just really excited to see it all together cause i LOVE my found objects!

Hmm... it depends how heavy your chimes are as to what I would suggest.  Any idea without giving away your secrets? Cheesy

well they arent that heavy. but i would like something thats not going to break in shipping or in a strong wind... as for the chimes part i would say lighter weight for chimes.. heavier then say a bamboo chime but lighter then a biggish metal pipe chime...

did that make any sense?

Cheesy  Makes perfect sense!

The power went out when I was typing my last reply... grumble.

Check out your coat hanger again and see if you could decorate it with beads or clay perhaps.

How about using silverware?  You could connect a few forks into a circle and curl the extra tines to look funky.  I curled this bracelet & then used a dremel to give the flat part some texture & shine... http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=117157.0

You could use a fork vertically and spread the tines out so they each hold a chime, too.

Don't limit yourself to hollow circles as your holder.  Look for solid circles around the house because you could always pierce solid circles to hang your chimes.  A funky old pot lid, tin cover, vintage pie pan, a round picture frame.  You could make a beaded lampshade (small or big) like this http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=100703.0 or this http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=132913.0 but don't drill out the center where the bulb would go.  Flip it upside down and drill holes around the perimeter instead.  Then the chimes would have a stained glass-like dome to hang from.

Looking for long pipe-like holders and funky shaped pieces, too.  Maybe a piece of bamboo, horse shoe, piece of copper piping, sun catcher, birdhouse, candle holder, bell, Mardi Gras mask, paint brush, branch or an incense burner.

Bike tire rim?  Decorate an embroider hoop (or not)?  Some sort of wrought iron candle decoration turned windchime holder?

Okay.  I'll shut up now.  I've spent too much time thinking about windchimes over the last few weeks. Cheesy

Awe...you just made my night! Grin Cheesy Grin

Glad to help!  I've been wandering around my house looking at everything lately and wondering, "Hmm... how could I use that in a windchime?"  And sometimes, "No.  Wait, that was a Christmas present.  I probably shouldn't use that. Cheesy"
