my dear friend patsy in taiwan is about to have a baby - i was was a little stuck on what to make ... i'm from northern canada and often make cozy hats and warm sweaters as baby gifts .... but i've lived in taiwan: wool doesn't make sense! and i don't know about you but i don't really like knitting with cotton - it kinda bugs my hands ... anyway the answer arrived at my door(which is really lucky for me because i live in a remote place) as part of the "my country doesn't have that swap" i received a skien of Noro Sakura (a rayon, poly, silk blend)

pattern: Top Down Bonnet from Hello Yarn http://www.helloyarn.com/topdownbonnet.htm
needles: double pointed size 4
wool: Noro Sakura (half a skien - i've started another!)
size: newborn

and a yummy detail

**edited to add: do you think this can be uni-sex? it has a fair bit of pink (and blue) in it....

yes! i think it can be unisex! as long as the parents don't live in the 1950s. it's certainly girly enough (because girls can wear blue without people blinking, surely?) sure there's a bit of pink, but I think it's balanced out by the very greyish blue.

i think i'll still send the first on to patsy (one w/ the orange top on the right)
i love this pattern and knitting with noro is always fun - seeing how the stripes appear

lol. thanks lupin, my brother-in-law was really worried about his son wearing pink when he was first born - i think it must be a new dad thing - but i'm not going to worry about it! there is as much pink as there is blue

ooh and a detail:

That's really cute! Smiley

I've been wanting to buy a skein of the Sakura, since it looks interesting, but I'd never seen it in an actual FO. It's good to know that it knits up so beautifully. Smiley
