My first attempt at stenciling was for my Pirates of  the Caribbean swap. This is what I made for my swap partner. It's on the left shoulder part of the shirt.

My 13 year old sister was so impressed by it that she asked me to do this one...

I have NO CLUE why she wanted Abe Lincoln but she did and she loves it. Hahaha. People ask her, why? She says cause its cool.

I guess she sure showed them  =)   Not too shabby, aye?

you can never go wrong with pirates or abe lincoln.

they turned out really well, though i might have put the abe lincoln as white on black instead (i find photo-negative-like images a little harder to recognise, but that's really just a personal preferance).

what kind of white paint did you use?  it turned out really well.

I would have, but she only wears black shirts. In person, the image pops out. For whatever reason, the pic made it look funky.

Being that it was my first time ever making and using a stencil, I went to JoAnns and picked up the first thing that said Fabric Paint. It was $1.29 a bottle and I got 2 white, 2 black. I really wasnt sure how much I was going to use per shirt. Turns out, a little goes a long way.
For the Pirates logo, I was very gentle. I brushed the first run and then lifted a corner. I think I fudged it a bit. Then I did a second coat and painted it a bit harder with more paint. Then I left the stencil on for a bit. Whoops. It sticks after a while. So I had to peel it off.

Abe was a brush and run. I was really tired and wanted to get the thing done for my sis to wear the next day cause I promised her SO this time I squeezed a bunch of paint onto the stencil and finger brushed the paint in twice without lifting the stencil. Then I swirled the paint around again to make sure I got it all. RIGHT after that, I peeled it off. Viola. So easy. I love it. I want to stencil AAAALL my clothes now. Hehe. Its good fun

aah, i too wear almost entirely black shirts, so i understand that one.  i think i just find it disorienting when the light part of the face and the dark part are reversed.

also, fingerpainting = genius.  if the white paint is the kind in the little squeezy bottles, using a brush and painting on thin layers takes about a million coats to get a good color.

and i must say, i'm REALLY liking that abe lincoln.  pictures never do anything justice, but it looks like the stencil turned out real well.  also, i think i just have a thing for abe lincoln, but that's completely besides the point.
