monsie bear, i didnt use interfacing with these ones, although i should have.
and the appliques are simple. just cut out the shape and stitch around it on a sewing machine.

dollparts, i think i got it at walmart actually.

to start off, my advice would be to keep your appliques shapes very simple... say maybe just a square or rectangle (but with a fancy print so it will still look cool  Smiley)

then, as you gain confidence, you could move onto more usnusual shapes.

how about printing out a sheet of auto shapes using microsoft word?

I saw your purse (sooo cute!) and I went trying to make my own. I started a thread in the reconstuction completed projects of this form (purses wallets etc.) but i wanted to post the link here so that you guys can check it out and tell me what you think. I am very new to sewing so please don't laugh. I laugh at myself enough for us all. lol
