I saw on here a while ago, some one who had made a huge poster wall-size at home, using some fabulous program that printed the image on consecutive pieces of paper.

any idea where that might be?

That would be the rasterbator. Rasterbation converts pictures into printable pages. You decide the size, the number of pages used, etc. It works really well if you cut up a piece of foamcore and put the pieces on there.
