Fiber Friday 5/11

I'm so excited to start this thread, I guess the one good thing about the flu is that you can't sleep so well and are able to beat everyone else to the punch.
Two yarns this week, the first is from Spunk Eclectic, the FOTM called strawberries.
I spun sport weight singes and made a boucle yarn by plying it with pearl metallic embroidery thread and embroidery braid. Its my first boucle yarn but it came off the bobbin even!!!

The second yarn I have started with this


Its now fingering weight 230 yds made from all my brown left overs that I tried and failed to over dye with sari silk flecks. Spun lace weight and Andean plied.
I call it "Sh*t bowl" as per my father looking at me carding and asking what I was doing with all that sh*t in the yellow bowl.

I loooove this one. It's made from some of the roving that was sent to me in OWS..19?

I definitely don't like this one. It was a test yarn with thread to see how I would have to do it:

And finally, this one was a gray roving, but I dyed it. Its a little more pinky purple than I would have liked, but it turned out well.

I had to give my wheel up last night. It was borrowed from the local arts center and now Im done with the class Im going to a weavers meeting Monday to see if I can rent one of their wheels. Im expecting a few pounds of fiber from sheep shed in the mail, Ive GOT to have a wheel!

I also have some to share, but I have to free up my camera first!  The skeins are just lovely so far!

Vanillaxlight,  i feel your pain.  I have to give mine up today (its a rental) and I'm heartbroken about it.  I bought so much fiber at the sheep and wool festival!  i think we *need* wheels!

Happy Fiber Friday!!! Nice yarn isamax! Star217 that second yarn is so pretty, and vanillaxlight, you have really gotten the hang of spinning fast! Your yarns are awesome! I think I might have sent you some of that roving in OWS 19... the skein turned out so nice! (No I'm not taking credit ha ha)

I just have one today, blame the day job. It's another seashell yarn and it went to asphaltqueen in a swap. Yes, I'm the one who keeps making crayon yarn and seashell yarn. Anyway, it's in the order of sand, sea, sky, clouds and plied with Hawaiian shells. It should knit up like a landscape.

I looooove the colors in that yarn. Very earthy and beautiful.

Yum...everything looks good so far! I keep coming back to look at all the pictures again.





Aurora - multicolored merino with big coccoons of white/pale yellow mohair. I spun this so that the entire skein is candy-striped.





Laura Ingalls - Superwash merino, bamboo, recycled sari silk, and nylon sparkle. Spun from my own handcarded batts and plied with holographic seafoam green thread. I called it Laura Ingalls because the colors remind me of a prairie full of wildflowers and bolts of pretty calico fabric, both of which remind me of Little House on the Prairie (the books - I never really saw the tv show).





Venus - 50% cotton, 50% ecospun in pales peaches and pinks. Ecospun is a fiber made from recycled plastic bottles. This yarn is cottony soft, but with a slight silkiness and sheen.





Rona - Spun from merino wool in black, brown, white, and multiple shades of pink, mohair in shades of black, brown, and pink, hot pink sparkle, and black and hot pink recycled sari silk. This is the crowning achievement of my week, right here.

Feralfeminine, I love the idea of ecospun!!  Where in the world did you find the roving?

And isamax, your felted yarn is fab!

Sort of a weird picture to share today...
I always put off the final step of yarn washing, so the result this past weekend was this curtain of yarn hanging to dry on my front porch.

ooooh Id like to know where you got the ecospun, too!

I actually love washing my yarn. Never was a baptist, but boy do I love to hold those suckers under water until the bubbles stop
