Wow, fourth topic post of the day...
My mom had a whole bunch of junk pins with useless college-union type things on them that no one outside of the unions want to look at so I decided to make my own pins.
I painted over the pins with acrylic paint several times to cover up the writing underneath, added various details like sparkles or polka dots and then a coat or so of trusty Mod podge.  I'll be making more soon.  I'm presently working on a "Bach Rocks" one because I want to show classical music some love.

Clockwise: purple with turquoise dots, white sparkly, yellow with black dots, coke bottle cap, cherry blossoms (inspired by the wall painting in the featured projects)

Any ideas for more things to paint on the pins would be appreciated, and they're something you can easily do too, if you're so inspired.
