Okay, so for the last two months, I've been working on this afghan as a Christmas present for my parents.  It actually took about half that time, but there was a big space of no work being done in the middle because Someone didn't realize that there's a difference in color between the red heart giant pounders and the same name in the red heart classic.  In other words, red heart classic has dye lots and giant pounders do not.  So Someone had to order more and wait for it to come in the mail because Someone shops at wal-mart where they don't keep things in stock.

The pattern is from this book:  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0942237552/qid=1100186955/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i4_xgl14/002-7175327-5769610?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

So, here's my finished product:

I'd definately reccomend this pattern if you're looking for a flag afghan.  I think it's a lot more fun than the ones that are just endless rows of single crochet.  This is the biggest thing I've made so far, so it did get a little tedious, but I don't think I would have finished if I'd tried the sc one.

My Grandma made that SC flag afgan....it took her a really long time
but then....just as she was approaching the finish line, my Grandfather told her "its not a true American flag unless it's double sided!"
so she crocheted up 50 MORE stars and lined them up on the reverse side too!  (so much work and sewing!!)
She won a ribbon for it at the local 4-H fair.

That's a really nice and thoughtful gift! I remember reading about some lady in my state who crocheted the world's largest American flag. It was like 60' long or something insane like that. Yours is WAY more functional!

Thanks you guys for your comments.  I hope my parents like it too.  I'll be sure to post about they're reactions after Christmas.
