The only thing holding me back is that I'm not sure I'll be able to successfully complete a pretty lace pattern (still a bit of a knitting newbie), and I don't want to send a boring cloth...

this is why dishcloths are wonderful. you can work on something new on a small scale. do it, if only for the experience  Grin

I wasn't going to do this at first, but some of those stitches looked so kewl! And, it's a dishcloth, not much commitment, right?  Roll Eyes

lapoli if you end up with an odd number of people I can take on 2 partners, I crochet pretty fast.
