I'm going to send in my info but I have a question someone on here may be able to answer.

I've been looking for a particular house plant at local garden centers & I don't know the name of. Its a plain greenery plant, no flowers but it has these tendrals that grow out around the pot that look like hairy spider legs. I know the common name has something to do with spiders but I cant remember it. Is anyone familiar with this plant that could tell me the name?

Nope thats not it. I have a spider plant. This plant literally looks like it has a live spider living in it with little hairy black/brown legs growing out of it. They are really ugly.

this is the closest thing I could find but the tendrils are black & grow close to the pot not in the leaves like this one

i've got a call out to my hubby right now.  we just saw one of those plants last week with the pink "cattails" in it.  Of course, i can't think of the name of it so i called him since he has a very good memory.  hopefully he will call back soon.  i love it in pink but i don't know about black and looking like a real spider.  i would be afraid all him friends might come.  lol.

It is a chinchilla plant - sorry, don't know the botanical name. They are kinda hard to take care of (they are fussy) - you can usually find one at a flower shop and around here anyways at the grocery store. Usually, they have them in the fall. If you can keep a pink polka dot plant alive then you can keep a chinchilla alive.

thanks everyone for helping me.....

It serves me right for not getting it when I saw it & when I went back to the nursery they were out.

auntiem I did a google image search for the chinchilla plant (of course there were only 2 images) I think that may be in the same species I will ask at my nursery for plants in that same family, thanks!!

I read in my You Grow Girl book about starting seeds in Jell-O so I'm trying it today!

By the by, does anyone know of a plant figurine (my grandma had a couple) that looks like a smiling, fat green worm or caterpillar?  I tried googling it, but could not find one.  I don't think it waters or anything, just sits in the pot, looking cute.

Do you mean the little clay worms that change color to indicate that you need to water? They have them at my fave nursery - next time I go I'll see if I can get the name of the company.

So since we're all in the USA, I looked up about mailing plants:

Mailing Plants
9.6.1 Mailability

In general, plants and plant products are mailable within the United States and its territories and possessions, subject to certain prohibitions imposed under U.S. agriculture and conservation statutes. To the extent specified below, when such prohibitions make shipment of plants or plant products unlawful, those articles constitute nonmailable matter. More detailed information is in Publication 14, Prohibitions and Restrictions on Mailing Animals, Plants, and Related Matter.

quarantined plants and illegally-taken plants cannot be mailed

The Terminal Inspection Act (7 U.S.C. 166) makes it unlawful for anyone to mail a package that contains a plant or plant product to an address in a global state or territory maintaining terminal inspection of such plant or plant product if the outside of the package is not marked with a statement that fully and conspicuously identifies the contents. The statute authorizes imposition of a monetary penalty on anyone who makes such an unlawful mailing.

If the package is not classified as Express Mail service (domestic or international), Priority Mail service, First-Class Mail, or an international letter package, it may be opened and its contents examined.

Anywho, I looked under the Hazardous, Restricted, Perishable poster, and under plants it listed trees, citrus, and cacti.

Well, I guess just ask your post office, but possibly we can send whole plants???

As far as sending plants goes - nurseries around the US do all year with no extra certificates. Certain protected or endangered plants can't be shipped over state lines, and some states like Hawaii have extra rules and regulations, but besides that or mailing something that is classified as a noxious weed, you should be fine.

I've grown and sold carnivorous plants for over 10 years now and ship approx 20 - 30 plants a month  Tongue I've never had a problem. The postmaster knows what I'm sending and as long as it's in the US it's fine.

Is there going to be another round of this swap??  Grin

carnivorous? like venus fly traps? I can never get them to grow.

Well I found out recently a bunny family has been living in my yard & one day I came out & all my cauliflower & broccolli plants were nibbled to bits. So far the only thing I have used is a little vinegar water in a spray bottle which keeps them away until it rains again then they go to town. Any other ideas.....FYI I have 2 dogs so it can't be toxic

I've been asking around for humane traps so I can trap them & let them loose outside the city. I think its a boy & girl & they are getting ready to have babys there is a new hole that looks like the ones they dig for their babies in my yard.

So my garden is now bell peppers & cucumbers...not sure if the others will make it  Cry
