Hello all, was just wondering when the next feltalong is due to happen?? I have just ordered a stack of new wool and and itching to get started, but i need some inspiration/theme!

I am new to the world of felting and I was hoping that I could make my debut with the next felt-along.
Does anyone have any suggestions?!

To answer both of you, GraceOblivious and I are discussing if we were going to prompt/host any more new felt-alongs for the time being.
Mainly due to the waning interest over the last few felt-a-longs.

Thoughts/comments by any felters are welcome

Hi Amy, sure appreciate your enthusiasm.  Anyone can initiate a felt a long.  Yes even a new to felt making person. 

Initially, because there were so few feltmakers here we collaborated on what to do for felt a longs trying to find something of interest to the majority to help boost participation. 

Over the past year and a half there have been a variety of needle felting and wet felting felt a longs focused on building skills and trying techniques.

while there are no longer groups working on similar projects, you can work through the past felt a longs and ask questions, add new comments as you work.  Past participants are really great about checking those threads when new comments arrive and providing help. 

Please feel welcome to try one of those, especially if a new felt a long does not get started soon.

I'm just now starting to get into felting, I've done beads and soaps so far, and not much else.

I'm thinking about going back to the beginning and going through the old feltalongs and it would be even more fun if others were doing it too?

We could start at the beginning?  Or just see if a couple of us could agree on one other than the first one to work on together?

That is a great idea.  Maybe some variation of the theme using the basic skill - such as - Bead and Ball Felt a Long - how many sizes, how many different things can be made with felt beads/balls, compare how various fibers felt - who prefers needle felting balls, who prefers wet felting balls.

Or take any of the others and expand or refocus them.  since you have done beads and soaps is there one of the other feltalongs you would like to try with company?

I would like to give a vessel ago and of course one of the fabulous hats, but i am open to suggestion and will go with the majority!

Perhaps we ought to vote!?? my top 3 choices for feltalong (in no particular order):

Wet felting a vessel
Needle felting over a 3D form - Hat
Wet felting over a flat resist

i'm in the middle of finishing a few commissioned knitting pieces, so thats why i didn't want to take the lead in the next felt-along.  but i'm very much into doing some following.....

I have been around a while, but still feel like a beginner! I'd love to join in with new felt alongs (or revisit past ones with the group) My vote is for flowers, but I'd be interested in any of the ones already mentioned.

So we don't spend forever voting and no time actually doing the feltalong, im going to be incredibly bossy and decide that the closing for votes is this Friday 18th May, so far its looking like the vessel is the favourite to start off with, but it could all change

the main point of the felt-a-longs is to help each other, share learning, struggle and succeed in fine company.

I've always wanted to try either wet or needle felting (though after reading about the needles I am pretty sure I wouldn't succeed without horribly maiming myself) so this is excellent!

I am so pleased to see a renewed interest in the felt-alongs, AND an interest in the vessels. 
If you'd like, I can come and pop by with some technical 'advice' or tips, or just general enthusiasm for your felt-along...I really just want to be a felty voyeur. lol.

The polls have closed and the votes are in!! (ok i may be taking this a little too seriously )

Third placed are:

Which means the winner of the re-feltalong for this month is:

WET FELTED VESSEL = 5

So to continue with my bossy streak, if no one has any objections, how about starting today? I think Jane Does suggestion of a month is a good idea, plenty of time to gather materials and get going, so how about finishing on Friday 15th June?

I will start a re-feltalong thread for the wet vessel on the 'discussion and questions' page with a link to the tutorial. Anyone else interested is most welcome to join in.
