I don't mean to be imflammatory, but I would love to do an atheism/ alternative religion (meaning anything that isn't considered the norm, whatever the continent... if that makes sense) swap.. For one, you can never have enough atheistic gear, and two, it's just nice to remember that you aren't the only atheist in the universe. (I live in a highly concentrated bible belt, hehe)

.. any takers?

This would be pretty cool, though I'm not sure how many atheism related crafts I could come up with.  Alternative religions would be easier to craft for.  I'm a Buddhist atheist and I can think of a lot of Buddhism related crafts.  Hm.  I will ponder on this.

(PS: I live in the Bible belt too. I feel your pain!)

Maybe an "agnosticism" swap would be better, because alternative religions can also have a deity.  And relating alternative religions to atheism could be taken offensively.
Try a different title. Wink
Just some thoughts.

i dont understand what "atheist gear" is. like, smashing god? i'm atheist and even i think thats a bit inappropriate.

Atheist gear... like with quotes from famous Humanists/Atheists, with the accepted atheist symbol.... I don't want to start a philosophical argument or anything, but Atheism doesn't have to be negative in any manner, especially towards any religion. Why would you assume that?   Embarrassed

On second note, it probably isn't best to lump in Atheism with smaller alternative religions, but I was just batting around an idea. I mean, there are different 'sects' (though I don't really like that word) of atheism. There are tons of different witty quotes to embroider, figureheads to stencil... the atheist quote-unquote 'culture' is teeming with crafty fodder.

Actually, there are quite a few Atheist symbols... more of a logo, I'd say. Here's the most widely accepted one, but there are many others.

it's just nice to remember that you aren't the only atheist in the universe. (I live in a highly concentrated bible belt, hehe)

come live in sweden: "Sweden has been considered the world's largest project in dechristening" (in a non-forced way)
we've got the highest procentage of atheists/agnosticists in the world, officially. Cheesy
Just wanted that said Tongue

Secondly, atheism is a religion really, because it's based on belief. The belief that there is no god(s).
If you want to take that further, I guess agnosticism is the religion of "prove it!" Wink

Sorry for rambling, I'm a bit exhausted
But other than my rambling, this sounds like a great idea. Atheism/heathen/minority religion, whatever you wish to call it/include in it, it sounds fun.

Another good symbol would be the Darwin fish (for evolution). It is like the jesus fish but with feet and, on some, darwin where jesus is.  Smiley I hope that isn't off topic.

I don't really agree with calling athiesm a religion, more of a "world view," a  term that includes religions. Technichally athiesm can't be a religion - the prefix 'A' means 'without' and 'thiesm' means religion.
I've been wanting to make a shirt that says "I think, therefore I'm athiest"   It may offend some people, but I don't see how it's any more offensive than certain religous shirts. And my intent wouldn't be to offend people- being an athiest is something I'm proud of and if others don't approve I'm not going to hide my beliefs for them.
I'm on board with this swap!

Interesting, You can be religious and still be Atheist, Atheism is a "Philosophy". It is from the Greek 'Atheos', 'A' meaning 'without' (well done on that  Grin ) and 'Theos' meaning 'God' (you were very very close  Grin), so you can be religious and atheist simultaneously as long as your religion doesn't have any God/s. There are Atheist movements in many ancient eastern religions and modern religious like Scientology are entirely Atheist.

There are even Atheist movements in Judasism and Christianity - that is what 'Non-realistic Christianity is ( see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/atheism/types/christianatheism.shtml)

I myself believe in god and in the supernatural but I don't even attempt to comprehend or define it so I am neither religious or atheist.

Oh and one more thing Atheist is spelt a-t-h-e-i-s-t so best to forget the 'I before E' rule your teachers corrupted you with as there are just as many words where it doesn't apply. (Sorry I've been hanging with my grammar police friends all week and it's rubbed off, if you wanna spell words differently then that's cool too  Grin)

I would not consider atheism a religion. Belief and religion are very different concepts. I believe that one day I am going to write a book, that doesn't mean that my wish to become a writer is a religion. I wouldn't join an agnostic swap, since I am not agnostic. I am an atheist, and I'm Swedish by the way, lots of us here.  Grin Dawkins has lots of really great quotes that one could use for crafting something by the way. Will post some...
