Lets start with: Ive never written a pattern beforeso if I make mistakes, Im very sorry.

This hat was made to fit a newborn baby. I dont know my gauge on the stitches because Ive already given the hat to the mommy-to-be. The basic measurements I used were, 13 circumference and 5.5 tall.

This had is crocheted in the round.

Materials I used:
Two strands sport/baby/fine weight yarn (I was stash busting)
US 9-crochet hook (body)
US 4-crochet hook  (trim on brim)
Stitch marker

Stitches used:
Ch= chain
Sc= single crochet
Inc= increase (make two sc in st of previous row)
Flo= front loop only
Sl st= slip stitch
Pt= picot (sc, ch2, sl into the top of the sc just made)
Blo= back loop only
St= stitch(es)

This is crochet in a spiral, so you do not need to join in the first round. Youll place the stitch marker to mark the beginning of each row.

HAT:

Round 1: Create a magic adjustable loop and sc 6 in loop for first round. Place marker. 6 sts

Round 2: inc all the way around. 12 sts

Round 3: *1 sc in first st, inc. Repeat from * around. 18 sts

Round 4: 1 sc in first st, sc in next stitch, inc. *sc in next 2 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 24 sts

Round 5: 1 sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, inc. *sc in next 3 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 30 sts

Round 6: 1 sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, inc. *sc in next 4 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 36 sts

Round 7: 1 sc in first st, sc in next 4 sts, inc *sc in next 5 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 42 sts

Rounds 8-21: sc in each st around. 42 sts

Round 22: sc in flo of each st around. This will start the brim. 42 sts

Round 23: 1 sc in first st, sc in next stitch, inc. *sc in next 2 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 56 sts

Round 24: 1 sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, inc. *sc in next 3 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 70 sts

Round 25: 1 sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, inc. *sc in next 4 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 84 sts

Round 26: 1 sc in first st, sc in next 4 sts, inc *sc in next 5 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 98 sts

Round 27: 1 sc in first st, sc in next 5 sts, inc *sc in next 6 sts, inc. Repeat from * around. 112 sts  Join with a sl st.  Cut strand and/or color you will not be using for trim.

Edging:
At this point I ran out of the pink, so I only used the multi-colored yarn. I switched to the smaller hook.

Working with color/strand for trim, ch 1, *sc 2 in blo of first st, pt and sc in next st. repeat from * around. 55 picots

FLOWER:

You can add any flower you like. I used http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=24234&categoryid=29

TIES:

Make 2.
Using two strands of color used for edging, ch 51. sl st, inserting your hook through the back ridge ONLY, in the next ch and in each ch across. Attach to hat at opposite ends where the brim starts.
